Perfect brush hood alignment is essential for making horsepower and preserving brush and commutator life. Your brushes need to be in perfect alignment with each other and centered with the motor shaft. The Brush Hood Alignment Tool works with standup, laydown and P-94 brushes.
Tips:
Assemble your motor setup without the armature. Slightly loosen the 2 screws that hold the brush hardware to the end bell. Insert the alignment bar through both hoods. Insert the provided motor shaft through both motor bearings passing through the hole in the alignment bar. Tighten down the brush hood screws. Now when you remove the the shaft the alignment bar should move back and forth through both brush hoods. A trick is once your hoods are aligned, solder the corner of the brush hood to the lower heat sink plate to keep them from moving.
